A special sports meet was held on June 6 in the Yangkou Port Economic Development Zone – located in Nantong city, in East China's Jiangsu province – attracting the participation of staff from the zone's administrative committee, as well as employees from two resident companies: APP and Tongkun.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. The event was held to celebrate the revolutionary spirit and showcase the united and enterprising character of Yangkou's people, according to officials of the committee.

Before engaging in basketball and table tennis competitions, to work up their enthusiasm, participants from the three groups sang revolutionary and patriotic songs including Ode to the Motherland and My Chinese Heart.

APP and Tongkun are two new key provincial projects with an investment of more than 10 billion yuan ($1.56 billion) each in the development zone.

Officials said both are scheduled to start operating in the current year.
