As the summer heat has come, so too has the arrival of the busiest season for PetroChina's Jiangsu LNG terminal – on Yangguang Island in Yangkou Port, located in Rudong county, Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province.

A main player in the strategic energy network in Jiangsu, the terminal is responsible for one third of the province's daily gas supplies.

The Al Ghuwairiya, a tanker carrying 267,000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas, was unloaded at the terminal on July 10 – making it the 45th LNG carrier received and unloaded by the facility so far this year.

The high-quality and clean gas has been continuously transported to regions in East China, as far as northern Zhejiang, eastern Hubei and southwestern Shandong province. It has effectively alleviated the previous problem of insufficient natural gas supplies in the Yangtze River Delta region in the summer.

As a key part of the strategic national natural gas interconnection system, Jiangsu LNG receiving station has received and discharged 38.29 million tons of LNG from 25 countries and regions and exported more than 53 billion cubic meters of natural gas in the past 10 years. In addition, it has reportedly achieved remarkable results in carbon reduction and environment protection for the country.

On the basis of the 680,000 cubic meters of total tank capacity in the first and second phases of the terminal – and the annual unloading scale of 6.5 million tons of LNG – in 2018 PetroChina started the third-phase expansion.

Currently, the project has entered the final stage and is expected to start operations by the end of this month.

"We will accelerate the development of cold energy utilization, natural gas power generation, equipment manufacturing and other LNG downstream and support industrial chains and strive to lead the country in the comprehensive utilization of green energy," said Zhou Liang, director of the administrative committee of the Yangkou Port Economic Development Zone.
