As the only port that receives foreign ships in Rudong county – administered by Nantong city in East China's Jiangsu province – Yangkou Port is an important line of prevention and defense against the COVID-19 epidemic from outside.

With the help of big data, since the start of the year the Yangkou Port Economic Development Zone has been implementing strict and precise epidemic prevention and control routines.

"Through real-time monitoring and big data, we can clearly see the situation with vehicles entering and leaving and people moving on Yangguang Island, which is more conducive to the prevention and control of the operation," said Zhu Xinfeng, deputy director of the port administration of the zone.

According to Zhu, the PetroChina Jiangsu LNG Terminal, located on Yangguang Island at Yangkou Port, is the largest liquefied natural gas receiving and unloading base in the Yangtze River Delta region, responsible for nearly one-third of the energy supplies in Jiangsu province.

This year, the terminal has received and unloaded 18 LNG tankers from Qatar, Australia, Russia and other countries and regions.

"After international ships arrive at the port, we check the health status and track of all boarding personnel through the China Immigration Boarding Code, to strengthen the supervision of any virus spreading risks," said Feng Yun, who works at the Rudong entry-exit border inspection station.

Though faced with the arduous task of epidemic prevention and control, the Yangkou Port Economic Development Zone is said to have established a solid epidemic prevention barrier and effectively guaranteed the safe and orderly operation of the port.
