The city of Nanyang, the host of the 2019 World Federation of Rose Societies (WFRS) Regional Convention China, recently released the goals set for the grand event from this month to next October.

The WFRS Regional Convention will commence in the city on April 27 and last until May 2 in 2019. The government said that the construction of Nanyang Rose Park, Binhe Rose Garden and Lanhu Lake Rose are the most important and urgent tasks in the preparatory plan, since they are the venues for the convention and a window for displaying Nanyang's rose industry and beautiful cityscape.

The planning of the three parks is expected to be finished by the end of April; all plantings of roses will be completed by the end of next year.

The construction of the three parks and improvements on the rose expo park and Wenxian Rose Garden will be completed by the end of next October.

A total of 30 rose parks will be built and the main avenues, streets, parks and landscaping spots as well as expressway entrances in the city will be decorated with more roses.

Each district and county will build two or three 1,000-plus meter long rose avenues and at least one 100-mu (6.67 hectares) rose garden.

All the decorations with roses in the city's parks and tourist destinations will be finished by the end of next year.

Nanyang will build and renovate the roads surrounding the rose-themed parks and transportation infrastructure facilities in downtown. A tunnel linking the Zhangheng East Road with the Nanyang Rose Park will also be constructed.

The city will speed up the construction of its exhibition and convention center and improve the facilities and services in all of the scenic spots. The signs will be translated into English, Japanese and Korean.

The construction of demonstration bases and rose industrial clusters in the city will be accelerated. The Rose Town and an ecological tourism belt, along with all the rose parks and production bases will bring the total planting area to 150,000 mu (10,000 hectares) by 2019 and create an industrial layout with an agglomeration effect.

The city urged the establishment of Henan Rose Institute and the collection and cultivation of the wild germplasm resources of roses, ancient Chinese garden roses, modern rose cultivars and new high-quality cultivars from all over the world.

It will also cultivate new varieties to facilitate the sustainable development of the industry and strengthen the exchange and cooperation with rose enterprises abroad, expand its sales network and global presence via the internet.

Nanyang will actively promote eco-tourism and the integrated development of the primary, secondary and tertiary industries. It will explore new business models for agriculture.

In addition, Nanyang will publicize the Chinese rose culture through its official bilingual website for the Regional Convention as well as various promotional events such as selection and release of slogans, mascot and logos.

The city calls on local artists to create carvings, paintings, calligraphy, movies, TV plays, songs and novels with rose elements.

Hotels, sculptures and public municipal facilities are encouraged to promote the rose culture via rose decorations.
