Focusing on the theme of "wetland and water, living together, interdependent", the Baihe National Wetland Park Management Office of Nanyang city carried out an online and offline publicity drive on the 25th World Wetlands Day, which this year fell on Feb 2.
At the park's Yahekou Reservoir Dam Management Station, the staff publicized the role and significance of wetlands to the masses by posting banners and slogans and issuing leaflets. At the same time, they also demonstrated the effectiveness of wetland protection and restoration and the important contribution of wetlands to maintaining global freshwater reserves and aquatic ecology.
Wetlands are known as the "kidney of the earth" and "natural reservoirs". They can effectively store water and purify sewage. They are also important habitats for aquatic organisms, amphibians and birds.
In recent years, the ecology of Nanyang has continued to improve, attracting more and more birds to overwinter, and more than 200 species of waterfowl have been monitored there.
