Nanyang holds press conference on the development of TCM industry

The Nanyang Municipal Government Information Office held a press conference on the development of Nanyang's traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) industry on Sept 16.

Representatives of the Nanyang Traditional Chinese Medicine Development Bureau, Nanyang Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, Zhang Zhongjing Museum, and Nanyang Traditional Chinese Medicine Development Service Center reported on the development of the city's TCM industry.

At the end of 2016, Nanyang was listed as a National Experimental Zone for Comprehensive Reform of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 2019, it was listed as a national advanced city for grassroots TCM work. As of the end of July 2021, there were 74 TCM hospitals, 657 TCM clinics, and 9,795 TCM beds in the city. At present, the reconstruction of Zhang Zhongjing National Medical University and the construction of the Medical Shrine Cultural Park are under way.

Nanyang's TCM industry is showing vigorous development with an annual output value of 30 billion yuan. The city has planted 1.85 million mu of 79 varieties of Chinese medicinal materials, as well as established 22 standardized planting bases for Chinese medicinal materials and 28 "Poverty Alleviation Demonstration Bases for the Chinese Medicinal Materials Industry". The annual output value of the city's Chinese medicinal planted materials is 6 billion yuan.

At present, the city has six national geographical indication protected Chinese herbal medicine products and four national geographical indication certification trademarks. It also has 53 Chinese medicine companies above designated size represented by Wanxi Pharmaceutical and Henan Fusen, and 14 Chinese medicine companies that have obtained GMP certification.

Nanyang also has the largest wormwood industry in the country. The city has held the 14th Zhang Zhongjing Medical Culture Festival, the 8th Zhongjing Forum, and the 4th China Wormwood Industry Development Conference.
