Chao Kee-Tung carries on father's legacy of patriotism and innovation

Like many descendants of the pioneering generation of Ningbo-born Hong Kong entrepreneurs, Chao Kee-Tung, chairman of Novel Optics (Ningbo Yongxin Optics Co Ltd), radiates a profound commitment to patriotism and love for his hometown that has been a cherished tradition within his family.

Chao Kuang-Piu, his late father, a distinguished Hong Kong industrialist, laid the foundation for Novel Optics in Ningbo in 1997. Upon assuming leadership in 2007, Chao Kee-Tung has steered the company's steady ascent to becoming a leading player in China's optical industry, entrusted with numerous national projects.

"Wherever the country needs us, we will be there," a motto ingrained in every Novel Optics scientist and technologist by Chao Kuang-Piu, continues to inform the company's path forward.

This commitment has translated into remarkable achievements, such as crafting optical lenses for the Chang'e Lunar Exploration Program, spearheading the development of the ISO9345 international standard for microscopes, and pioneering the creation of China's first laser scanning confocal microscope and space microscope experiment module. From humble beginnings to the forefront of innovation, Novel Optics has amassed 139 patents and 117 standards, advancing steadfastly on its journey of discovery and excellence.
