French traveler experiences Ningbo's winter fishing feast
The quaint fishing village of Xiasha in Xiangshan county, Ningbo, recently held a winter fishing feast, a centuries-old celebration of the fishermen's culture and the sea’s bounty.
The Winter Fishing Feast in Xiasha is a cherished cultural practice that has been preserved for generations. Exquisite fishing techniques, such as using bamboo traps, netting, spearing, and pond draining, were demonstrated during the event.
The highlight of the celebration was the preparation of the highly anticipated "First Pot of Winter Fish". A colossal iron pot, measuring nearly three meters in diameter, was heated over an open fire. Fresh fish, caught just moments before, were added to the pot, simmering into a delightful and nourishing fish stew. Within half an hour, the aroma spread through the air, and the stew was shared among the thousands of guests participating in the grand feast.
Among the eager participants was Youness Ignaoune, a traveler from France, who embarked on an unforgettable journey to experience the rich traditions and festive spirit of this ancient maritime celebration. Join him to celebrate the bounty of the Ningbo harbor!
