Wine from Ningxia listed among world’s best

Wine from Northwest China's Ningxia Hui autonomous region was among the top six wines of 2021 listed by the Swiss magazine Vinum, which recently named its Top 100 wines for the year.

The Chinese wine, Chateau Changyu Moser XV, Yinchuan, Ningxia, received 18 out of 20 points in Vinum's scoring system. It is the first time a Chinese wine has been listed.

Vinum's Top 100 wines are selected from among 5,000 wines by experts affiliated with the magazine. The majority of the winning wines come from France, Germany and Italy.

Chateau Changyu, carries the aroma of black currants and blackberries, with a flavor of chocolate and leather. The taste is spicy and rich , with a baroque structure, Vinum said.

Made by grapes from Ningxia's Helan mountain, Changyu Moser XV uses six different yeasts and three temperature ranges to ferment simultaneously in hundreds of fermentation tanks.

Since 2013, it has been exported to 44 countries including the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Russia.

It was named Best Chinese Wine in the 2019 MUNDUS Vini World Wine Competition.

Vinum magazine was founded in 1980. It is based in Zurich, Switzerland and has German and French editions.
