Philosophy behind the design:

The conference's logo comprises different elements of stars, the desert and leaves. The lower half of the logo is inspired from the desert, as the white lines represent strokes of a freehand style of the Chinese character of "沙" (sand). The character design also embodies the woods planted in the grids of a desert. 

The 13 stars represent the 13th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNCCD.

From small to big, the three leaves grow upward, which symbolizes the power combating desertification that continues to grow.
