Field visit of China’s Efforts to Combat Desertification and Application Information


Introduction to field visit routes

Route 1: Comprehensive Treatment of Mu Us Sandy Area in Ejin Horo Banner

The Mu Us Sandy Land, Ordos, covers 31,800 square kilometers, 70% of which has been under control. The field visit travels from the north border of this sandy land to its center, which typically demonstrates Ejin Horo Banner’s comprehensive control efforts. The round trip covers 173 kilometers. We will mainly visit such aspects as the comprehensive control of the Mu Us Sandy Area, brush cutting, salix scrimber products and the efficiency of controlling desert by planting pinus sylvestris, etc.

Route 2: Comprehensive Treatment of the Kubuqi Desert in Dalad Banner

The Kubuqi Desert, Ordos, covers an area of 14,100 square kilometers, 25% of which has been under control. The field visit route starts at Kangbashi District, goes north through the hilly and gully areas and then travels through the Kubuqi Desert to its northern end. The round trip covers 234 kilometers. We will mainly visit such aspects as the exploitation and utilization of desert resources, the comprehensive utilization of salix psammophila and the efficiency of the comprehensive control of the Kubuqi Desert and the sand-fixation project. We will also witness the soil and water loss control of the hilly and gully areas and the afforestation of the northern border of the Kubuqi Desert along the route.

Schedule

There are four field visits in Route 1, four hours and 30 minutes for each. Field visit codes and schedules are as follows:

Route 1a ——September 10th 8:30-13:00

Route 1b —— September 10th 14:00-18:30

Route 1c —— September 16th 8:30-13:00

Route 1d —— September 16th 14:00-18:30

There are four field visits in Route 2, four hours and 30 minutes for each. Field visit codes and schedules are as follows:

Route 2a —— September 10th 8:30-13:00

Route 2b —— September 10th 14:00-18:30

Route 2c —— September 16th 8:30-13:00

Route 2d —— September 16th 14:00-18:30

Application Information

1.We sincerely welcome all delegates to participate in our field visits. 

All activities are free of charge. In addition, we will provide you with exquisite field visit brochures, tea breaks, professional English interpreting and videos about desertification prevention and control technology, which will give you a better understanding of the unique Ordos model in China’s efforts to combat desertification and a good experience of the beautiful natural scenery in Ordos. 

2.Application Time

All delegates who would like to take part in our field visits on September 10th please apply by emailing us such information as your name, organization, position, contact information, hotel’s name in Ordos and the codes of the field visits you would like to join in before 12 p.m. September 9th. Your application e-mail will be replied before 8 p.m. 

September 9th.

All delegates who would like to take part in our field visits in September 16th, please apply by emailing us such information as your name, organization, position, contact information, hotel’s name in Ordos and the codes of the field visits you would like to join in before 12 p.m. September 15th. Your application e-mail will be replied before 8 p.m. September 15th.

4.We will arrange buses for you in accordance with the order of your application and email you relevant information. Your application email will generally be replied within 24 fours. If you apply just one day before the field visit, your email will be replied before 8 p.m. on the same day. Please check our reply email in time. If you do not receive our reply email, please check with our staff at the information desk or call our consultation hotline 18610671240.

We will email the following information to you:

1. We will inform you the number of the shuttle bus you are recommended to take to travel from your hotel to our gathering place (the parking lot at the east side of the Dang Zheng Building).

2.We will inform you your team leader’s information, and the number of the bus you should take at the gathering place. Please note that you should take the same bus along the whole field visit route.

3. We will inform the number of the shuttle bus you should take to go back to your hotel when arriving at the gathering place after the field visit. You can also have your own plans after the field visit.

Important Notes:

1. All delegates can apply for our field visit voluntarily. Each field visit route will be arranged twice on September 10th and 16th with no more than 200 people for each. The final participation list will be decided by the order of your application.

2. If you fail to arrive at the gathering place at the required time due to your own reasons, you will lose the opportunity to participate in our field visit.

3. Please think carefully about whether you will take part in our field visit activities or not. Your decision will be respected. Please follow our arrangements and requirements when you are on the field visit route. If you cannot participate in our field visit after you have applied for it, please inform us in time via unccd_fieldtrip@126.com
