Ordos's Kangbashi New District as a whole was designated a national 4A-level scenic site by the national tourism authority in 2012, making it the only city in the country to receive such an honor.

The district of “Kangbashi”, a Mongolia word for “outstanding teachers”, serves as a model of how a city can develop into a modern one within a short period of time. Located in the southern part of the central Ordos Plateau, the district is the center of finance, politics, culture, technology and education for Ordos.
