This is the fourth time that the institute has released the list. For this year, Beijing ranked in first place with a total score of 93.74 points, which was followed by Shanghai and Guangzhou with respective scores of 88.23 and 83.40 points.

Ordos is placed 43rd with a total score of 44.90 points, four places higher than last year.

The top 100 cities in terms of GDP are considered to be included in the list, while the order of them is based on two indicators, namely economic and soft economic indicators, with the first indicator accounting 61.8 percent of the total score and the latter 38.2 percent.

The economic indicator consists of two aspects - - GDP and household saving and the soft economic indicator includes aspects of environment, science and technology, education, culture and health.

The Warton Economic Institute, formerly known as the Shanghai Institute of Economic Development, was established in 1988. It is the first research institute in China to provide a comprehensive and integrated approach to macroeconomic, regional economy and enterprise development.

Over the past two decades, the Institute has completed a series of major projects related to national strategy, regional development and business growth and has made outstanding contributions to promoting China's economic reform and development.
