The city of Ordos in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region played host to 1.84 million tourists during the Oct 1-7 holiday period, representing year-on-year growth of 10 percent, according to local media reports.

Total tourism revenue hit 918 million yuan ($129 million), surging 25.7 percent over the same period last year.

According to the statistics, most tourists coming to the city chose short tours of the local area, with stops at major tourist attractions such as Ordos Grassland Resort, Whistling Dune Bay and the Genghis Khan Mausoleum.

In celebration of National Day, a fireworks display and drone shows were staged at Wulanmulun Lake on Oct 1.

To maintain a safe and orderly environment for tourists, the city introduced extra security patrols and inspections at key tourist attractions.

Local officials said that special arrangements were made to ensure that adequate numbers of staff were on duty to handle complaints over the holiday period.
