An important development took place when the Ordos Equipment Manufacturing Base was recently upgraded by the local authorities as an autonomous regional-level industrial park, local officials said.

According to an Ordos city statement the green light was given by the government of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

Local officials said Ordos Equipment Manufacturing Base is a new type of industrial park built in 2007, to transform local economic development and economic structures.

The base mainly develops high-tech, high-added value business operations. Among others, it boasts a high-energy conservation and environmental protection equipment manufacturing industry as well as other related supporting industries.

Officials said that after ten years of construction and development, the basic support infrastructure and functions of the park have been improved, and the industrial development has begun to take shape.

In addition, it has won many awards and achieved recognition at the national, autonomous regional and municipal levels.

To date, the base has attracted 109 projects with a total investment of over 200 billion yuan ($28.31 billion). Among these projects, 66 have been put into full operation and 21 projects are under construction.

The base has initially formed five leading industries. These comprise an electronic product manufacturing industry, an automobiles and auto parts manufacturing industry, an energy equipment manufacturing industry, as well as an energy conservation and environmental protection industry and a new materials industry.
