Ordos, university combine forces for modern energy economy

A signing ceremony for a strategic cooperation agreement between the municipal government of Ordos, a city in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, and the China University of Mining and Technology was held at the latter's campus in Beijing on Nov 10.
Under the accord, the sides will carry out comprehensive and in-depth work in many fields.
This includes scientific research, commercialization of research achievement, industrial innovation, training people and urban construction and strategic consultation.
They will jointly promote the construction of an Ordos institute of modern energy economy, jointly build a training model to meet the needs of the modern energy economy and carry out major industrial innovation projects.
Officials said the cooperation between the two sides was expected to promote the sustainable development of the mining of coal resources.
It is also expected to see the increased use of clean energy, as well as increasing green practices in the mining sector as well as in other sectors in Ordos.
Officials said the new accord would further improve Ordos' application of scientific research achievements and supply more technical achievements.
At the same time, the cooperation is expected to help Ordos achieve its strategic goal of becoming a national modern energy economy demonstration city as soon as possible.
It is expected to provide strong support for the transformation and upgrading of Ordos's industries, and build a smart city with high-quality and coordinated development of multiple energy sources.
After the ceremony, the Ordos delegation participated in the Innovation and Development Conference at the China University of Mining and Technology and visited the State Key Laboratory for Geomechanics and Deep Underground Engineering.
