Kangbashi district in Ordos, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, was formally named as one of the third batch of national ecological civilization construction demonstration zones -- in a ceremony held in Shiyan in Central China's Hubei province on Nov 16, officials said.
The push to create an "ecological civilization" in China was listed -- along with economic, political, cultural and social progress -- as one of the five goals in the country's overall development plan at the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 2012.
The national policy, in short, is about creating eco-friendly and sustainable cities.
In recent years, Kangbashi district has been actively implementing the development concept that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets".
Officials said it has as its goal, constructing a national-level ecological civilization construction demonstration area.
They said that with that in mind, it has continuously worked on improving an eco-friendly environment in an urban context and moved to install environmentally friendly infrastructure.
It has improved its environmental management system, promoted the application of energy and water conservation facilities, developed eco-tourism and modern service industries -- and implemented major demonstration projects linked to green and ecological industries.
