The major improvement in medical services at No 4 People's Hospital in Ordos -- a city in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region -- won national recognition at a conference held in Beijing on Dec 28, local officials said.

The organizers said the conference aimed at exchanging and promoting good experiences and examples of improvements in medical services.

Sponsored by the Medicine Administration Bureau of the National Health Commission and Health News newspaper, the event attracted the participation of about 1,000 representatives from over 400 hospitals in more than 30 provinces, autonomous regions and cities.

According to officials from the Ordos hospital, further improvement of medical services was an important task for the wider national, provincial and municipal deployment of valuable resources.

But they said it was also the practical imperative of hospitals to actively adapt to the needs of patients, improve the quality and efficiency of medical services, create a high-quality service brand, as well as improve patient satisfaction and high-quality innovative development.

In recent years, the hospital has consistently implemented the general requirements of the national-level, Inner Mongolia and Ordos health commission.

The requirements seek to strengthen the development of the medical and health service system, focus on the needs of patients -- and promote the all-round and high-quality coordinated development of clinical work, teaching, scientific research, administration, logistics and the integrated health care system.

Officials said the hospital has been widely recognized for optimizing and innovating its medical service processes and improving its medical quality and safety.

It has also been lauded for improving the medical treatment of the public, especially for the development of the integrated health care system -- and has been paid attention to and been highly appraised by medical and health institutions at the provincial, municipal and surrounding areas.

Officials said that at the same time, the hospital has continued to further promote an action plan for improving its medical services.

It has carried out municipal and autonomous regional-level scientific research projects, implemented a "long-term diagnosis + remote diagnosis and treatment" mental health community management model and promoted the development of key disciplines.

In addition, the hospital has launched a series of measures to strengthen its medical quality and medical services, improve the hospital environment and build a psychological services system.
