Spring Festival shopping fair kicks off in Ordos

Due to the approaching Spring Festival – the traditional Chinese New Year which falls on Jan 25 this year – a shopping fair focusing on special purchases for the most important of traditional festivals simultaneously kicked off at Dongsheng district and Kangbashi district in Ordos city, in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, on Jan 9.
According to local media reports, the main venue of the shopping fair is set up in Dongsheng district.
The exhibition hall's total area is 2,000 square meters and features one import and export commodity exhibitions area, two special agricultural and livestock products exhibitions areas, two areas for special purchases for the Spring Festival and one sample tasting area.
There are more than 200 exhibitors in the festival, 139 of which are local enterprises that display and sell Ordos's special local products.
Over 1,000 commodities are being displayed and sold. These include dried fruit, candy, wine, liquor, and non-staple food. Elsewhere on display are Spring Festival couplets and New Year pictures.
Also on offer is fruit, clothing, cashmere and wool, green agricultural products, special local products and import and export commodities.
The shopping fair, which runs to Jan 19, has set up strict access conditions, the organizers said.
The exhibitors include leading established agricultural and animal husbandry production and marketing companies and new production companies.
Officials said departments have strictly checked the qualifications of the exhibitors and the qualities of their products.
Exhibitors will also launch various promotional activities during the fair and at the same time, give good discounts to the poor households in the city.
In addition, in order to better meet demand, the organizers have arranged a fast-track channel for group buying, to provide lower bulk prices.
