Skywell New Energy Automobile Group Co -- a high-tech new energy vehicle company -- recently invested 1.5 billion yuan ($212 million) to establish a manufacturing plant in the Dongsheng district of Ordos city, in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, local officials said.

The plant will have an annual design production capacity of 30,000 electric cars and electric heavy trucks and generate an annual output of 24 billion yuan, when it achieves full production.

The construction of the plant will be divided into two phases.

The first phase, which involves an investment of 600 million yuan, will start construction in June and aim to go into production in December this year.

After being put into production, phase I will have an annual output of 5,000 fully electric heavy trucks and electric special vehicles worth 8 billion yuan, generating tax payments of 240 million yuan.

Skywell will start the construction of the second phase when the output and sales of the first phase reaches 70 percent, with an investment of 900 million yuan.

Officials said that the construction of the project will play an important role in driving development of the local economy and create new jobs.
