Construction of new generators kicked off at the Inner Mongolia Changcheng power plant on July 18 in Shanghaimiao Economic Development Zone -- located in Otog Banner, administered by Ordos city, in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region -- according to local officials.

The two 1 million kilowatt ultra-supercritical air-cooled coal-fired power generators – costing a total of 6.10 billion yuan ($871.55 million) – are being funded by Inner Mongolia Energy Engineering Investment Co, Inner Mongolia Energy Power Generation Investment Group Co, Northern Lianhe Power Co and Shandong Energy Xinwen Mining Group Co.

Officials said this is one of the support power supply projects for the UHV DC transmission line from Shanghaimiao in Ordos to Linyi city in East China’s Shandong province.

The generators employ high-efficiency ultra-supercritical indirect air-cooling technology and are equipped with desulfurization and denitrification devices.

Officials said they are due to be completed and running in March 2023, with an annual power generation capacity of 17.5 billion kWh.

Officials said that following the groundbreaking for the two new generators, all the four generators in the Shanghaimiao Economic Development Zone have started construction.

When they are all online, a total of 27 million metric tons of coal will be converted into power on-site every year, generating 44 billion kWh of power, 10 billion yuan in output value and 2 billion yuan in tax revenue.
