An important 500 kilovolt power transmission and transformer project broke ground on June 29 in Uxin Banner, administered by Ordos city in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, according to local officials.

Officials said that the total investment in the project is 970 million yuan ($137.29 million) and two 1.2 million kilovolt ampere transformers will be built. They are scheduled to be completed and be put into operation in December 2021.

Ordos officials said the project was approved by the Inner Mongolia government in 2018 and is a key project in the autonomous region and for Ordos city.

They added that it will solve the current insufficient power supply in the southern area of Ordos and improve its reliability.

After the project is completed and goes into operation, the capacity of the power supply in Uxin Banner will increase from the existing 670,000 kilowatts to 1.75 million kilowatts.
