Ordos new general airport gets green light

Uxin Banner General Airport in Ordos city recently got the green light to be built from the Inner Mongolia development and reform commission, according to a report from Ordos Daily.

The new airport will be located in Uxin Banner of Ordos city in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region. 

The general airport has received a total investment of 138 million yuan ($20.07 million), and it will be built following the category A standards for a general-purpose airport. 

The airport will cover an area of 641.69 mu (42.78 hectares), with a 1,200-meter-long, 33-meter-wide runway.

Officials said that the airport would be used for short-distance transportation, general aviation tourism, aviation school training, general aviation logistics, commuter flights, charter flights, aviation prospecting, surveying and mapping, emergency rescue, disaster relief, fire prevention and locust control.

Uxin Banner General Airport is a demonstration project in the general aviation development plan of the Inner Mongolia autonomous region during the "13th Five-Year Plan" (2016-2020) period. 

Construction of the general airport is of great significance to promoting general aviation development in Ordos and surrounding areas and building a general aviation system in the southwest area of Inner Mongolia.

The airport is also of great significance for promoting the economic development of Uxin Banner, building a three-dimensional transportation network, promoting the overall development of the tourism industry and improving and perfecting the emergency rescue system.
