The publicity department of Ordos city in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region recently allocated 15,878 books worth 602,000 yuan ($89,850) to 303 local grassland bookstores.
The measure is yet another step taken by Ordos to advance its grassland bookstore project, which was initiated in 2008 to help residents access books more easily.
The grassland bookstores receiving the donated books are located in the city’s Dongsheng district, Dalad Banner, Uxin Banner and Otog Front Banner.
There are currently a total of 736 government-invested bookstores in Ordos city. The shops are expected to play an essential role in helping farmers and herdsmen learn planting and breeding skills.
