Energy industry upgrades

Ordos has actively promoted the development and utilization of new energy sources -- such as coal bed methane, shale gas, wind energy and solar energy -- while mining natural gas in an environmentally friendly manner.

New energy power generation has become a sunrise industry, driving rapid economic development of the banners and districts in Ordos.

At the end of 2019, the city's total installed capacity of renewable energy power generation reached 3.01 million kilowatts, 2.9 times that of 2015.

Of that, wind power accounted for 400,000 kilowatts, hydropower for 760,000 kilowatts, biomass power for 60,000 kilowatts and solar power for 1.79 million kilowatts.

Transport network improves

By the end of 2019, Ordos' network of roads topped 24,239 kilometers, of which expressways accounted for 1,266 km, increasing 11.4 percent from 2015.

Ordos’ railways in operation last year reached 2,550 km, increasing 35.1 percent over the length of track in 2015.

During the 13th Five-Year Plan period, the average annual growth rate of passenger throughput at Ordos airport hit 15.3 percent. The total passenger flows handled by the airport reached 2,695,900 people in 2019.

Last year, Ordos airport operated 56 air routes, connecting the city to 60 domestic and international destinations.
