Ordos city in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region was nominated as a National Culture and Tourism Consumption Demonstration City.

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism recently made the announcement at a teleconference on promoting the high-quality development of the cultural industry.

The conference announced the lists of China's first batch of 15 National Culture and Tourism Demonstration Cities and 60 National Culture and Tourism Consumption Demonstration Pilot Cities.

Ordos is the only city in Inner Mongolia that made the prestigious list. It became a pilot city for cultural and tourism consumption in 2016.

Over a five-year period, Ordos focused on cultivating consumption habits, expanding the supply of cultural and tourism products, and promoting convenient consumption benefits for people. The pilot work has achieved significant results.

Ordos made efforts to attract residents to cultural facilities such as bookstores and cinemas by issuing consumption coupons and purchasing services paid for by the government.

Since 2016, Ordos city has invested more than 14.5 million yuan in culture consumption funds, directly driving more than 43 million yuan in cultural and tourism consumption.

Meanwhile, Ordos organized folk art groups to carry out around 3,000 cultural performances for the public.

A five-level public cultural service network has basically been formed in the city.
