Herdsmen in Ejin Horoo Banner in Ordos city in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region have benefited from breeding and raising cashmere goats.
Ejin Horoo Banner is located in the deserted grassland in the western part of the Ordos Plateau, famous in Inner Mongolia for the Min’gai cashmere goats.
The length of the cashmere produced by Min’gai cashmere goats exceeds 7 centimeters in length, and the cashmere is 13-16 microns fine.
It has become the preferred source of raw materials for cashmere sweaters produced by China’s well-known cashmere garment producer Erdos Group.
In 2016, the Min’gai Cashmere trademark was recognized as a well-known trademark in Ordos city. In 2019, it was recognized as a famous trademark by the State Intellectual Property Office.
Statistics show that there are currently more than 8,000 households in Ejin Horoo Banner raising Min’gai cashmere goats. The total number of Min’gai cashmere goats in the banner totals 352,000.
High-quality cashmere goats are also sold to Shanxi, Shaanxi, Qinghai, Gansu and Liaoning provinces, with a cumulative output of more than 200,000 breeding goats to these areas.
Thanks to scientific methods and models, raising Min’gai cashmere goats increases annual incomes for local herdsmen and helps improve regional vegetation coverage.
Take Subuerga town in Ejin Horoo Banner for example: In 2000, the vegetation coverage rate of the town was less than 50 percent, but now the vegetation coverage rate has exceeded 90 percent.
