Ordos residents to benefit from improved social assistance standards

With approval from the government of Inner Mongolia autonomous region, Ordos city will once again raise its social assistance standards in 2021.

The decision was made based on Ordos' economic and social development level, the level of residents' living consumption and rising commodity prices.

According to the new standards, the urban subsistence allowance will be raised to 840 yuan ($126.03) per person per month, an increase of 50 yuan from 790 yuan per person per month in 2020 and an increase of 6.3 percent.

The subsistence allowance standard in rural and pastoral areas will be raised to 7,200 yuan per person per year, increasing 480 yuan from 6,720 yuan per person per year in 2020 – a year-on-year increase of 7.1 percent.

Meanwhile, the basic living allowance of extremely impoverished urban residents will be 1,600 yuan per person per month, increasing from 1,500 yuan per person per month in 2020 – a year-on-year rise of 6.6 percent compared with that of the previous year.

The basic living allowance of extremely impoverished residents in rural and pastoral areas will be 10,920 yuan per person per year, an increase of 720 yuan from the 10,200 yuan per person per year in 2020.

At present, Ordos city has 26,370 residents enjoying urban and rural subsistence allowances. Among them are 5,149 people in extreme poverty.

The increased living allowances will provide a stronger guarantee for the well-being of needy people in Ordos.
