Ordos reaps tourism bounty during May Day holiday

During this year's May Day holiday, the scenic spots in Ordos city – in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region – hosted some 350,000 visits, even during the current novel coronavirus prevention and control measures, witnessing a year-on-year increase of 297 percent.

The attractions generated 130 million yuan ($19.50 million) in tourism revenue, representing 249 percent growth year-on-year, with sales at 80 percent of the levels enjoyed in 2019.

In addition, the number of overnight tourist stays in Ordos during the five-day period reached 96,000.

To boost tourism and retail spending over the May Day holiday, Ordos launched various products. It also strengthened its market supervision and improved its tourism service capacity and quality to improve the experience of visitors.

Flower sightseeing routes featured among the most popular tourism products in Ordos city. Sightseeing of deserts, canyons, the Great Wall and countryside along the Yellow River also proved popular.

In an additional initiative, scenic spots in Ordos offered discount tickets, various free services and other products for tourists visiting the city.

Tourism promotions of Ordos city were also staged in various cities across the country, in advance of the break.
