More than 30,000 mu (2,000 hectares) of fresh pepper planted in Chengchuan town in Otog Front Banner – administered by Ordos city in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region – recently entered harvest season.
Farmhands are now stepping up to join in with the picking and transportation, to ensure high yields and increased local income.
In recent years, Otog Front Banner has taken full advantage of its unique climate and geographic conditions to develop its pepper sector through a model of "bases+cooperatives+farmers".

In recent years, they've been busy registering trademarks for local-cultivated pepper varieties – with trademark names emerging such as Biyu, Youzhou and Hongse Chengchuan.
The dried and fresh peppers include horn peppers, sharp peppers, line peppers, bell peppers and screw peppers. They sell well in 14 provinces and cities – among them Hunan, Hubei, Guangdong and Chongqing – and have reportedly become a new engine for the region's rural revitalization.
