The High-level Plenary Meeting on Carbon Neutrality and New Energy, a part of the undergoing Eighth Kubuqi International Desert Forum, took place in the city of Ordos in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region on Sept 28.

Du Huiliang, acting mayor of Ordos, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.

In his speech, Du described the current economic and social development of Ordos.

He said that achieving carbon peaking and carbon neutrality is a major strategic decision made to promote China's sustainable and high-quality development and reflects the responsibility to build a community with a shared future for mankind.

As an important national energy and strategic resource base, Ordos is committed to implementing the major decision-making and deployment of the "dual carbon" strategy, which refers to carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.

It is also driving industrial transformation through energy transformation and promoting green and low-carbon development.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), Ordos will explore its new path of high-quality energy development with the environment and sustainability as the priority, implementing four actions involving industry cluster cultivation, effective investment expansion, county economic growth, and industrial park improvement.

Du also added that the city will establish an institutional system compatible with the "dual carbon" goals.

Xiang Haiping, general engineer of National Energy Administration, Dusan Bella, Slovakia's ambassador to China, Eric Solheim, former Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme, and Wu Hailong, chairman of China Public Diplomacy Association, also gave speeches at the forum.
