Juungar Banner in the city of Ordos – located in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region – is rolling out rooftop photovoltaic projects, in response to the central government's call for peak carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060.

The banner's Bulian'gou coal mine is a typical example of the push towards developing green energy.

Installation of rooftop solar panels at the mine officially started on Nov 12.

According to Wang Jinwen, who is in charge of the 6-megawatt project, when completed, the average annual power generation there will reach 8.55 million kilowatt-hours.

It is expected to save 2,805 metric tons of standard coal and reduce emissions of 8,500 tons of carbon dioxide, 196 tons of nitrogen oxides and 2,326 tons of carbon dioxide dust.

The generated power will be used for coal production and to meet the daily electricity needs of staff.

Moving forward, all the coal production and living facilities in the Bulian’gou coal mine will use power generated by photovoltaic facilities, Wang added.
