The city of Ordos in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region will build itself into a modern energy economy demonstration area during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25).

In doing so, Ordos will promote high-quality energy supply, energy industry clustering, the diversification of energy business formats, and continue to improve the efficiency of the comprehensive utilization of energy resources and the ability to guarantee supply.

From 2021 to 2025, Ordos is projected to adhere to the joint development of coal power, natural gas, wind energy, solar energy and hydrogen storage, accelerate the construction of intelligent coal mines and smart grids, and advance the construction of a number of modern large-scale coal mines, UHV power channels and supporting transmission bases.

Ordos will also promote the application of advanced technologies such as ultra-low emissions of coal-fired units, carbon capture and storage (CCUS), and hydrogen energy and fuel cells as well as accelerate the development of green and low-carbon energy and promote the comprehensive development of multiple energy sources.

It aims to achieve the "double decline" of energy consumption intensity and the energy consumption growth rate and the "double growth" in the proportion of non-fossil energy consumption and the proportion of clean energy transmission outside the city as well as the "double optimization" of energy structure and power structure.

Ordos also plans to continue providing important support for the national energy strategy.
