Dalad photovoltaic power station, the largest desert photovoltaic power station in China, was awarded the 2020-2021 National Quality Engineering Award, the first land photovoltaic power station to be given the title.

The National Quality Engineering Award is the oldest national quality award in the engineering construction industry and also has the strictest entry requirements.

The prize-winning photovoltaic power station is located in Dalad Banner in the city of Ordos in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

The station forms the shape of a horse using more than 1.06 million solar photovoltaic power generation panels.

Its No 1 and No 4 projects have a total construction capacity of 300MWp. It was connected to the national grid at full capacity on Dec 17, 2018, making it the first power station to achieve full-capacity grid-connected power generation in the third group of national key photovoltaic projects.

During the construction of the projects, many technical barriers were overcome by using seven national key energy-saving and low-carbon technology items — five items of the 10 new technologies developed for the construction industry.

It won the China Energy Project Innovation Award in 2018, by demonstrating the use of new technology in power construction.

In the three years since it was put into operation, the Dalad photovoltaic power station has generated a total of 1.67 billion kWh, saved 560,000 metric tons of standard coal, and reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 1.33 million tons.

It has established a good model for the development, utilization, and construction of low-carbon and clean energy resources.
