The grain output of the city of Ordos in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region in 2021 reportedly hit 1.01 billion kilograms.

That performance set a record and capped off 18 consecutive years of bumper harvests, according to the Ordos Daily.

Earlier this year, the sown area in the city reached 7.13 million mu (455,333 hectares), equivalent to that of the previous year.

Of that, the cultivated area for grain came at 5.11 million mu, an increase of 14,000 mu on last year, paving the way for another big crop.

In 2021, Ordos handed out subsidies of 633 million yuan ($94.97 million) in total for the planting of corn, soybeans and potatoes, as well as for the protection of farmland.

This is said to have fully incentivized farmers to cultivate grain, ensuring a stable growing area and output.
