The city of Ordos in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, as an important energy base in the country, is responsible for ensuring national energy security and is focusing on green transformation.

This was revealed by Li Li, Party secretary of Ordos, in an exclusive interview with the Inner Mongolia Radio and Television Station on the afternoon of March 9.

To achieve such goals, Li said that the city will take three measures.

First, Ordos will focus on stabilizing coal production and supply. It is expected to continuously take advantage of its high-quality coal production capacity, promote the green and high-end development of the coal industry, and increase the clean and efficient utilization of coal.

Secondly, it will optimize the supply of new energy. Ordos will make full use of vast deserts and coal mining areas in its jurisdiction to build an important national green energy supply base.

The third is to promote green transformation. Plans for Ordos are to meet peak carbon emissions and carbon neutrality goals and build four industrial clusters for "wind power, solar power, hydrogen power, and energy storage."

It is expected to lead the transformation of industrial and economic structures with the transformation of the energy structure.

In accordance with the city's green development strategy, the Ordos municipal government, and the government of Ejin Horoo Banner signed an agreement on March 12 with the Shaanxi-based solar technology enterprise LONGi Green Energy Technology Co (LONGi Group).

According to the deal, LONGi Group will invest 30 billion yuan ($4.50 billion) in the construction of a 20GW monocrystalline silicon rod and slice project, a 30GW high-efficiency monocrystalline cell project and a 5GW high-efficiency photovoltaic module project in Ejin Horoo Banner.

The city's Juungar Banner also signed a series of new energy projects on Jan 17. A total of 102.55 billion yuan will be invested in the current year to boost the banner's high-quality development.
