Grand groundbreaking ceremonies for Inner Mongolia's eight hydrogen energy production projects were held on Aug 28.
The main site was set up in the Juungar Banner of the city of Ordos, and the sub-sites were in Damao Banner in Baotou, as well as Dalad Banner, Uxin Banner and Otog Front Banner in Ordos.
As a clean, efficient and safe secondary energy, hydrogen energy is a beneficial supplement to existing energy forms and an important part of the future national energy system.
However, due to the volatility and instability of power generation through wind and solar power, it results in a lot of waste while connecting to the grid.
First using wind and solar power to generate electricity and then producing hydrogen through the electrolysis of water is considered the most economical and promising industry for hydrogen production.
The successful construction of Inner Mongolia's hydrogen energy production projects marked the significant progress made by the region in promoting the development of new energy through innovative models.
It also indicates that the high-quality development of the hydrogen energy industry in the region has accelerated.
When these projects are put into operation, 72,000 metric tons of hydrogen will be able to be produced every year. They will be widely used for heavy truck vehicle fuel, the chemical industry, biomedicine and metallurgical raw materials.
By 2025, Inner Mongolia hopes to form a leading domestic industrial cluster integrating hydrogen energy production, storage, transportation and application.
The output value of the hydrogen energy industry in Inner Mongolia is expected to reach 100 billion yuan ($15.01 billion), contributing to the transformation and upgrading of the region's energy industry.
