Wind power has driven green development in Otog Front Banner in Ordos, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region.
Statistics show that the annual utilization of wind power in the banner exceeds 2,500 hours, and its annual average wind power density is high, which makes it a leading wind energy resource area in the country.
In 2022, the banner's distributed wind power quota has reached 30MW and has a planned total investment of 164 million yuan. The wind power projects are scheduled to be connected to the power grid in 2023.
A 20MW distributed wind power project of the Ordos Jiayuan New Energy Co has been approved.
The Ordos company has played an essential role in boosting the development of the banner's wind power.
The company's 15MW decentralized wind power project is the first wind power project in the banner to be connected to the power grid.
The total investment in the project is 100 million yuan ($14.27 million), and its total installed capacity has reached 15MW.
Since it was connected to the power grid on Dec 28, 2021, the annual on-grid electricity produced by the projects has hit 33 million kWh, reducing standard coal usage by 12,000 metric tons and water usage by 100,000 tons every year.
According to Zhao Xiaoyu, general manager of Ordos Jiayuan New Energy Co, "At present, we have six wind turbines with an annual profit of five to six million yuan.”
The second phase of the project has now been approved and is expected to be completed and connected to the power grid in June 2023, Zhao added.
