15th Sports Games of Inner Mongolia kick off

An opening ceremony for the 15th Sports Games of Inner Mongolia is set to light up the city of Ordos in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region on the evening of Aug 8.
The games have two categories, competitive and mass sports, with a total of 44 major events and 1,232 sub-events organized. They are expected to attract 15,000 people to participate.
The competitions will take place at one main venue in Ordos and five sub-venues in other cities, namely Hohhot, Hulunbuir, Ulanqab and Chifeng in the region, as well as in the Changbai Mountains in Jilin province.
Ordos is hosting 21 major events, including archery and athletics. Hohhot is assisting in the equestrian events, the modern pentathlon, and the shooting events.
Hulunbuir is responsible for field hockey, roller skating and most of the winter sports, while Ulanqab and Chifeng are assisting with the biathlon and snow events, respectively.
The preliminary rounds of the summer sports events started on May 3, followed by the finals on May 19. The mass sports events also started during this period.
As of Aug 6, a total of 941 sub-events were completed in 27 major sports categories. So far, 3,111 medals have been awarded, including 1,009 gold, 902 silver, and 1,200 bronze medals, and 121 individuals have broken 71 regional records.
