The 4-million-kilowatt renewable energy base project in the Ordos coal mining subsidence area in the city of Ordos in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region will soon be connected to the grid and start generating power in phases this year.
Located in Otog Front Banner, the project broke ground in May.
It is designed to have an area of 103 square kilometers and receives a total investment of 21.84 billion yuan ($2.99 billion).
When in full operation, it will be able to generate 7.65 billion kWh of solar power a year for East China's Shandong province.
