The dazzling fireworks show on the eve of Feb 3 in Kangbashi district, Ordos city, has officially launched Spring Festival festivities.

Feb 3 marked the 23rd day of the 12th lunar month in the Chinese Lunar Calendar, a day known as Xiao Nian, which literally means "Little New Year" in Chinese.

In North China, this day is traditionally seen as the prologue to the Spring Festival.
