In recent days, exposed sand in the Mu Us Sand Land, located in Otog Front Banner of Ordos city in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, has been undergoing treatment.

This area is a primary battlefield for the control of exposed sand across the three regions of Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, and Ningxia.

He Fuyun, director of the forestry and grassland bureau of Otog Front Banner, stated, "This year, we will carry out zonal management and focus on key areas within the Mu Us Sand Land, including the ecological corridor on the southern edge, the windbreak zone on the upper windward side, the sand-blocking zone on the lower windward side, the desert grassland protection and restoration area in the western part, and the consolidation and enhancement zone for the ecological red line in the sand land."

Suyalabaiyaer, director of the Wulantaolegai desertification control station, said "For nearly 50 years, we have been combating the Mu Us Sand Land.”

"We primarily employ the 'vertical sand barriers + mixed forestation' approach for mobile dunes, the 'horizontal sand barriers + grass and shrub mixed planting' method for fixed and semi-fixed dunes, and the 'grass planting + fenced enclosure' method for low-lying areas and marshes," he added.

As of now, the State-owned ecological public welfare forest managed by the Wulantaolegai desertification control station covers an area of 50,000 mu (3,333.33 hectares), with a regional forest coverage rate exceeding 60 percent, achieving commendable ecological and economic benefits.
