The 1-million-kilowatt Dalad Banner Mining Area Photovoltaic and Energy Storage Project was successfully connected to the grid on Dec 31, 2024.

The project, located in Zhaojun and Engebei towns of Dalad Banner, Ordos, spans 30,000 mu (2,000 hectares) with a total investment of 5.4 billion yuan ($745.24 million).

It has a construction scale of 1,000 MW and a direct current capacity of 1,115.83 MWp, featuring two operational control stations: one manned and one unmanned.

The project received land use approval at the end of June 2024. Following expedited preparations and rapid construction, work on the booster station began in early July. By late November, the project was ready for grid connection, achieving power reception readiness on Dec 29.

Once fully operational, the project is expected to generate an average of 1.89 billion kWh annually. This will reduce standard coal consumption by 570,800 metric tons, carbon dioxide emissions by 1.57 million tons, smoke emissions by 41.65 tons, sulfur dioxide emissions by 191.2 tons, and nitrogen oxide emissions by 287.75 tons annually.
