The world's first 720V high-voltage sodium salt battery project, led by Inner Mongolia Jianheng Aoneng Technology Co based in Ordos, has entered the small-batch production phase.
Following the successful commissioning of its production line, the project marks a groundbreaking step in energy storage technology.
This pioneering initiative fills a major gap in China's large-scale production of sodium salt batteries. With cutting-edge technology and world-class production capacity, it promises to inject strong momentum into the nation's rapidly growing energy storage sector.
The first phase of the project, which began construction in August 2023, involves a total investment of 500 million yuan ($68.49 million).
Trial production commenced in November 2024, and full-scale production is expected by June 2025.
Upon completion, the plant will have an annual capacity of 300 megawatts, generating an estimated annual output value of 1 billion yuan and contributing 130 million yuan in taxes.
Inner Mongolia Jianheng Aoneng Technology Co has emerged as a global leader in sodium salt battery innovation. Its 720V high-voltage battery, developed entirely in-house, is the first of its kind worldwide.
Utilizing solid-state ceramic electrolytes, the battery boasts exceptional safety – resistant to combustion or explosion even under gunfire or collision – offering a significant safety advantage over traditional lithium batteries.
The battery also performs reliably in extreme conditions, operating between -40 C and 60 C, and boasts a lifespan of up to 7,000 charge-discharge cycles. Its robust performance makes it ideal for power grid storage, harsh environments, and military applications.
The facility is set to become the world’s most automated and integrated 3GWh sodium salt battery production base, with a projected annual output of 6 billion yuan and tax contributions of 390 million yuan.
