Construction is in full swing on the coal gangue recycling project by Yidong Group in the Juungar Economic Development Zone, Ordos city, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

According to Li Xiaolong, deputy general manager of Yidong Advanced Materials Technology Co, the 20,000-square-meter raw material storage facility will be completed by the end of August, all key structures and auxiliary facilities will be finished by the end of September, single-machine testing will begin in October, and full trial operations will start in November.

As China's first specialized and standardized coal-based kaolin production line, the project aims to turn waste into resources. Once operational, it will process 1 million metric tons of coal gangue annually, yielding 1 million tons of standardized kaolin raw material.

"Our integrated process – from raw ore recovery to refined packaging – transforms waste into high-value materials for industrial and construction ceramics," said Li.

Future expansions, backed by an additional 700 million yuan ($97.36 million) investment based on the existing 230 million yuan, include a 500,000-ton calcined kaolin facility, upgrades to the mullite kiln line, and a kaolin extraction project in the eastern mining zone.

The project will secure supply channels in Inner Mongolia and plans to expand to markets in Chaozhou, Henan, and Handan, covering a wide range of ceramic applications. “We’re confident this will become a green flagship product of Juungar, with immediate economic impact upon launch," Li added.
