Ordos in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region held a press conference on Aug 19 to report the progress of its pilot program for coordinated pollution reduction and carbon cutting, marking it one of China's first national pilot cities.
At the end of 2023, Ordos, along with its Otog High-Tech Industrial Development Zone and Sulige Economic Development Zone, was selected as part of the first batch of national coordinated innovation pilots.
Since the launch, the city has made progress in policy innovation, industrial transformation, technological advancement, and demonstration projects.
Key achievements include: maintaining an air quality compliance rate above 90 percent, reducing energy consumption per unit of GDP by 25.8 percent, lowering carbon intensity by 13.6 percent, and achieving a GDP of over 636.3 billion yuan ($88.62 billion), demonstrating successful coordination between pollution reduction, carbon cutting, and economic growth.
In 2024, the city's coordination score reached 86.5, a year-on-year increase of more than 29 percent.
Ordos will soon introduce the "Incentive and Constraint Measures for Coordinated Pollution Reduction and Carbon Efficiency", focusing on deep industrial, energy, and technological innovations and aiming to provide an "Ordos model" for the green transformation of resource-reliant cities nationwide.
