A groundbreaking ultra-fast charging demonstration project for pure electric mining trucks began operating on Oct 10 in Dalad Banner, Ordos, making China a global leader in integrating green mining equipment with advanced energy systems.
Mining operations worldwide have long faced challenges of high energy costs, unstable power supply, and carbon emission pressure. This project offers an integrated solution driven by technological innovation.
Its core 2,880 kW liquid-cooled ultra-fast charger is able to produce a record-breaking 800 kWh in 18 minutes, significantly reducing energy replenishment time. Paired with a photovoltaic and energy storage system, each electric mining truck carries a 1,056 kWh super battery, forming a closed-loop "solar generation – energy storage – rapid charging" model that minimizes reliance on external power grids.
The project adopts a differentiated layout strategy, building two photovoltaic bases with a combined capacity of 270 MW, generating 195 million and 156 million kWh annually, respectively. These can support the daily charging needs of around 700 and 600 electric mining and heavy trucks, optimizing the use of renewable energy resources.
The project brings three key benefits. Economically, it cuts operating costs by over 50 percent compared to traditional diesel trucks. Environmentally, it reduces carbon emissions by more than 280,000 metric tons annually. Industrially, it drives growth across the photovoltaic, energy storage, and new energy mining truck sectors, providing a replicable model for building green power industrial parks in the region.
