Ordos takes measures to speed up transformation of logistics network

Ordos in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region has been developing an efficient, low-carbon, and intelligent logistics network through the "New Energy Digital Land-Sea Corridor Smart Logistics Project", exploring a new path marked by green and smart logistics.
As one of China's major coal-producing bases, Ordos has an annual coal output of nearly 900 million metric tons. For years, coal transport relied on traditional diesel trucks, leading to long loading queues, low turnover efficiency, and environmental pollution.
To align with China's "dual carbon" goals and promote the integrated development of the Hohhot-Baotou-Ordos-Wuhai city cluster, Ordos Lyudong Energy Investment Group launched the "New Energy Digital Land Port" initiative. The project integrates new energy, digital land port, and bulk-to-container transport to build a smart logistics system.
So far, five land ports and 21 charging and battery-swapping stations have been completed, with nearly 1,000 new energy heavy trucks in operation. Through an intelligent internet of things (loT) platform, vehicles, stations, and containers are digitally connected – enabling full visibility, management, and real-time scheduling.
"Our smart IoT platform began construction in October last year, and several modules have been operational since February. Charging-related functions are now running steadily," said Feng Hao, a technician at Ordos Lyuneng Zhilian New Energy Co.
Once fully operational, each electric heavy truck will cut carbon dioxide emissions by about 204 tons per year. The fleet of 1,000 trucks is expected to consume around 200 million kWh of green electricity annually, creating new capacity for wind and solar power utilization.
The project plans to introduce autonomous driving technology to further reduce labor costs and accelerate Ordos' transition toward a greener, smarter, and fully digital logistics system.
