Twenty mines in Ordos city, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, have been added to the region's green mine list, bringing the city's total to 192 by 2025 – the highest in the region.

The total now includes 20 national-level and 172 regional-level mines. Notably, 43 new green mines have been built since higher regional standards were introduced in April 2024.

Ordos has achieved strong results through institutional innovation. It became the first city in China to introduce a local regulation on green mine development – the Ordos Green Mine Construction and Management Regulation – revised in 2025 to provide a solid legal framework.

The city also issued evaluation indicators and operational guidelines for green mine construction, encouraging enterprises to shift from passive rectification to proactive development. Ordos has hosted three regional-level and three citywide on-site conferences, promoted demonstration projects at 38 mines, and formed replicable, scalable best practices.
