The fifth session of the fifth Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Ordos Municipal Committee opened on Jan 25, marking a new step in broadening democratic consultation by inviting youths and women observers to attend the meeting.

Bai Yutong, a junior student from Southwest Forestry University and a youth observer from Ordos, described the experience as exciting and eye-opening. Reading the CPPCC work reports, she said she was impressed by the effective handling of 441 proposals on industrial upgrading, reform, and innovation, which reflected the CPPCC's commitment to "responding to every proposal and delivering concrete results".

Another youth observer, Gu Junfeng from Inner Mongolia University, said attending the meeting in person deepened his understanding of the inclusiveness and vitality of democratic consultation. He noted that CPPCC members' speeches addressed both long-term urban development and practical concerns such as youth employment, inspiring him to encourage more young people to engage in local development.

Women observers also brought strong grassroots perspectives. Song Weihong, from the Ordos Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives and a regional March 8 Red-Banner holder, drew on her experience as a former first Party secretary in a village. She said attending the meeting enabled her to convey the concerns of rural women and farmers more directly, making consultation more grounded and practical.

Xu Lijuan, another woman observer, focused on issues such as children's health and integrated healthcare systems. She pledged to act as a bridge between the CPPCC and grassroots women and children, ensuring public concerns are effectively reflected and addressed.
